Nightwish “Shoemaker” — Milky Way Timelapse by the Sea (4K) [Fan-made]

With gratitude to Nightwish. Your music has been inspiring me for decades. I hope this final cut does it justice.

Watch in 4K. Serendipity at 00:55 - boats drifting almost in sync with the Milky Way.

I spent months chasing this cut: first testing the idea near home with basic gear, then moving to my old workhorse, the 5DmkII. Initially with the 17–40 mm, finally with the 15 mm Irix.

I started scouting locations at various places, and ended up in southern Greece. I watched light-pollution maps, weather windows, moon phases, and more.

On site, I set up the composition and waited for the sky to do its work.

There’s a humble gift of chance in here: for a while the fishing vessels drift almost in sync with the Milky Way, and it looks as if the galaxy rises from their light. Pure coincidence, but it felt right to keep.
